Downstream COE Montana

This is in the middle of nowhere but I was blown away by everything here. History of Fort Peck Dam, Dinosaur fossils found in the area and multiple trails.

The Interpretive center was fantastic!!

When leaving, there’s an overlook that gives you views of the lake and the river area where the campground is located. The tan colored hill seen in the 1st 2 pictures below is the dam which looks like a 4 mile hill.

Lewis and Clark state park, North Dakota

This park is right on the Missouri River and was my last stop in North Dakota. Although it was a little bigger park, spots were very big and laid out well.

As this park is in the middle of nowhere and 20 miles to a town, I pretty much just chilled. Winds were too high to take the paddle board out.

Lake Ashtabula COE, North Dakota

This place seems like it’s in the middle of nowhere and luckily there were very few people camping here. I was lucky to be in site 13 right near the beach. Except for the high winds, it was a beautiful place to stay. I really wish there were more trails in these COE campgrounds but for $12 a night for a site with electric, I’m not going to complain.

Leech lake COE

I had a great time relaxing at this campground. HUGE SITE!! I had hoped to be able to paddle board here but there were too many boats zipping in and out of the 1.5 mile long channel to get to the lake. I’m somewhat comfortable being on the water with this sitting down; however, not with all the wave action from the boats. I did, however, walk every loop multiple times each day.

Sandy Lake Recreation area near McGregor, Minnesota

I am on my way west and happy to be able to explore more of Minnesota. I have been thru the state before but not able to see a lot. I am staying at Corp of Engineer campgrounds and they are beautiful. On the Headwaters of the Mississippi River.

I was also able to take my paddle board out a couple of times. Tried standing but it was not successful. Good thing I was in the shallow beach area and there were no witnesses to see me take a couple spectacular spills. Lol!

Lake Gogebic State Park, Marenisco, Michigan

Well I must have been having too much fun here because I don’t have any pictures! I was able to take my new paddle board out a couple times. And met some fantastic people who happened to be friends with a wonderful woman I know from Wolverine Worldwide. Michelle and Bill were great to spend time with while I was here. I started out by asking them how they liked their paddle boards while we were out on the lake. What a small world we live in. Michelle and Bill started 5Loaves2Fish. An outreach group that provides nourishing meals for those in need. Michelle also drew this lovely woman on a rock for me.

Sites along the way in Michigan’s Upper peninsula

As I left Bond Falls for my next destination, I stopped at Agate Falls, the Ontonagon Harbor lighthouse and Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine mountain state park.

The Ontonagon lighthouse was a fantastic look back at life as it once was. The reconstruction work, as well as the furniture donations was great and really helps to put you in the time when this was a working lighthouse. I loved talking with Sally and Dave about what life was like here.

Lake of the Clouds is as beautiful as ever!!

Bond Falls near Paulding Michigan

I am amazed each time I come here. The walk along the river starts out with tranquil pools of water, then some small water falls. As you get closer to the big falls; you walk right next to the rushing water as it falls. Camping here for FREE was an additional bonus. Had a great spot and quiet neighbors.
