Bentley Lake State Park and Carlsbad Caverns NP near Carlsbad, New Mexico

This was a great place to hang for a few days and close to Carlsbad caverns national park. It was quite the drive froim White Sands NM through a couple of mountain passes and a whole lot of oil fields and desert scrub land. Such diverse landscapes. The highlight was Carlsbad caverns. I took way too many pictures but it was just so incredible.

So the whole experience was visiting the caverns…not so much the campground. Lol!

White Sands National Park, New Mexico

This was another side trip that was out of the way, but I was so close that I couldn’t resist. I felt like I was at a beach. 8 miles is a long way and it’s so different from the start of the drive to the end. It was fun to climb up and slide down. The fine gypsum was worse than sand however! Stuck to everything and it blows around easily.

Three Rivers Petroglyph Recreation Area, New Mexico

This was recommended to me by the couple who ran a horseback riding stable in Kodachrome SP. They camp host here in the winter. So happy I took them up on the recommendation. Great spot, easy hiking trails and a ton of petroglyph carvings all over. I also enjoyed walking along a short trail where the village was. Too cool!

Oh, and there’s some gorgeous sunsets! AND if you believe in Aliens, Roswell is close by…just saying.

Billy the Kid and Lincoln, New Mexico

While I was at Ft. Sumner and Basque Renaldo I was able to stop by the cemetery where Billy the Kid is buried, along with some unfortunate friends. I was told to stop in Lincoln, NM, to explore the town where he spent a lot of time in. It was pretty cool how the town is peppered with signs of their past. There was a lot of violence that took place here, and a lot of the buildings are still standing. Some are open to the public, and some are private residents.

Bosque Rodondo Indian Reservation at Fort Sumner, New Mexico

This was one of the best museums/ memorial places I have ever been to. So very touching and sad what took place here. Thanks to some Dine(Navajo) youths, this place is here to tell the ugly story of their ancestors and the US military at the time. I took enough pictures to help you experience this destination. If you’re ever in the Ft. Sumner area of New Mexico, it’s worth your time to stop.

Datil Wells BLM Campground outside Datil, New Mexico

This was my 1st BLM campground. I was so surprised by the layout of the sites, extremely clean vault toilets, super friendly camp hosts and the cost. It was $2.50 a night with my National Park pass. I scored 1 of the 3 sites with electric, which was a bonus but not necessarily needed. Hiking trails were great and the views fantastic. This is definitely on my list of places to revisit and stay for a few days.

Pinetop, Arizona Friend visit

I was surprised to discover this area of Arizona. You normally think desert but the mountain areas are beautiful! Dave was a great host and his neighbors welcomed me in as if I had always known them. I enjoyed a Halloween party, multiple hikes, dog love from Dusty and Brandy, huge bonfires, the eclipse and some football. Who could ask for more?
