Tickfaw State park near Springfield, Louisiana

I wasn’t sure as I drove here what to expect. I was directed down what looked like a one lane road. It was paved however and I took a chance. I did arrive at the park without any problems. I can tell you when I left, there was a better way in via 43 to 1037 to Patterson. See map picture below.

Once here, it was gorgeous! And much bigger than I expected. Unfortunately a few trails were closed as well as the Nature center, but I was able to find a lot of places to explore.

Palmetto Island SP near Abbeville, Louisiana

Loved this campground!! However again, the rain found me. Good thing I was here early enough to walk the park and talk to some locals who helped me appreciate the area and places to enjoy some good Cajun food. And I was corrected on my last name pronunciation. It’s LaBarr’E’ here in the bayou. They also tested me on how to pronounce their last names. Too fun!

Chicot State Park near Ville Platte, Louisiana

Amazing park and campground or should I say campgrounds. There are 2 fairly big campgrounds here as well as raised Tents with porches, chairs, tables, grills and firepits. As well as a splash pad and Louisiana State Arboretum that had a fantastic trail system. I was alone in my camping loop with fantastic weather and wood for a fire.

Twin Dikes COE near Jasper, Louisiana

I arrived here on Thanksgiving day during rain and cold conditions. Thank goodness I had a couple of football games to watch while I waited for the rain to let up so I could cook my Thanksgiving dinner. Grilled Steak, Shrimp. Broccoli and Red Skin potatoes. It was delicious!

Thank goodness the next day was sunny but cool, great walking weather. And I scrounged up enough wood to enjoy an afternoon fire and stream more football games. All in all a great time spent here.

Lake Livingston SP, Texas

Another fantastic campground. There are lots of trails and a great site to spend a few days at. I was here just before Thanksgiving and there were quite a few others camping with families and their dogs. I have to say, dogs are great, but if you take them camping, you should control the barking. There were 4 dogs around me. Anytime someone moved, they all started barking. I was just a little over it by the 2nd day.

Choke Canyon SP near Callihan, Texas

I was getting a little nervous as I got closer to this state park as the oil fields and refineries started popping up. The park itself is tucked back in away from the road and was very well maintained and beautiful. The only thing that worried me was seeing the feral hogs during the day, decimating huge areas. There were also a ton of deer roaming around all day. I don’t think they like the hogs.
