Holmes Bend COE campground near Columbia, Kentucky

This campground is on Green River Lake and was another bigger campground. What was nice was the smaller loops, so it didn’t seem so big. I was lucky enough to have a site at the beginning of the last loop. Only a few other campers farther down spent the weekend. Come Sunday,  everyone was gone from my loop.   I found it strange that each loop opens at a different time. Not sure if this is to help the volunteers here or not. Only draw back was the lake was not accessible from inside the campi area. A short drive to a boat ramp was needed.

Defeated Creek COE near Carthage, Tennessee

This was the largest COE campground I’ve been to. 155 sites, at least half are along the river as it twists and turns around a peninsula of land. Great people, free laundry and enough walking to enjoy staying for a few days. I wish the weather would have been better. I wasn’t taking the paddle board out with all the debris in the water and the current was extremely swift.

Cumberland Mountain state park near Crossville, Tennessee

What a gorgeous park! Although it’s a bigger park, it’s laid out well with a lot to do. Multiple trails,  a nice kayaking lake, a restaurant, a pool, a CCC museum, and of course, a playground.

Parksville lake RV campground near Ocoee, Tennessee

I’ve stayed here before and it seems I haven’t hit it at the right time for whitewater rafting. However, the weather was unpredictable, so it was a good thing I wasn’t on the water. I did find out from another camper that the 1996 Olympic kayaking competition took place here. So of course I had to explore.

Some cool history about the area and Copper mines! I would have done the trail but between Thunderstorms and Bears…I  passed.

Cheoah Point N.F. campground near Robbinsville, North Carolina

This took some mountain driving to get to but well worth it. I believe I drove through the southern part of the Blue Ridge mountains. Thank goodness not much traffic and for pull offs when there was traffic. Pearl and I don’t go fast because we’re gawking, not because of the inclines, switchbacks and descents.  Lol! Once here, though,  beach was nice, paddle board was fun and neighbors were pretty nice.

Oconee State Park near Mountain Rest, South Carolina

This is a beautiful area of the country if you love mountains. So much to see and do. There are a ton of waterfalls in the area. I saw a few but Miss Pearl and my legs had to pass on some of them. I was also lucky enough to be in a loop that was very empty. I saw 1 other camper near me. I love it! I did a lot of exploring both in the park and nearby. Pictures tell the story below.

Not more than 5 miles away these fantastic finds!

Modoc COE campground near Millen, South Carolina

All I can say is that I am very happy to keep finding these great camping spots. There are multiple peninsulas and camping spots in all of them. I really didn’t find one that was bad as I walked around. I was down a little hill with 5 spots total,  but I was the only one there. Right on the water as well.  Too bad there wasn’t a shallow, non-rocky place to put the paddle board in.

Magnolia Springs State Park near Millen, Georgia

This is a great campground! Small but with a number of things to do. I  made the most of it. Kayaking, tour of Fort Lawton, a Civil War prison for the south, made butter in a jar, had an archery lesson and walked a few trails.

Crooked River State Park.                            St. Mary’s,Georgia

This is always such a great place to stop. I have been told the Knats can get pretty bad, but so far, I’ve been lucky to have avoided them. I  stopped here thinking I’d go over to Cumberland Island but after checking ferry prices and tour prices; I opted to enjoy St. Mary’s and the state park. I’ve been to Cumberland Island before. It’s beautiful and great walking and encountering the wild horses. Go if you’ve never been! The park has enough trails and water access to kayak or paddle board in order to enjoy your time here.
